It’s all change for the Grand National 2018 Festival at Aintree with the newly renamed Grand National Thursday to play host to ‘A Day for Champions’ with Merseyside’s sporting greats on hand in new Champions Lounge.
The Thursday of the festival will now be known as ‘A Day for Champions’ and has been designed to celebrate the many successes of sport across Merseyside.
Sporting heroes of past and present are set to host Q&A sessions throughout the day so if you fancy seeing the likes of Kenny Dalglish, Michael Owen, John Aldridge, Sam Quek, Beth Tweddle, Jon Wilkin and boxing star Paul Smith then the place to be is at Aintree Racecourse on Thursday 12th April 2018!
Michael Owen, who also has his own yard at Manor House Stables in Cheshire said “Delighted to be part of the new Champions Lounge on Grand National Thursday.
“I’m a massive horseracing fan and the Grand National is such an iconic race watched by millions around the world.
“I really like the fact that Aintree is not only showcasing the quality of racing on Grand National Thursday but also celebrating Merseyside Sport on the day as well.”
Beth Tweddle, Olympic medalist and three-time World champion, said: “I’ve always been a Grand National fan – every year I make sure I watch the Grand National race – it’s the race that stops the nation.
“When I ask people about Grand National Thursday, they always say what a fantastic day it is, superb racing and their best day of the three.
“I’m delighted to be part of Aintree’s celebration of Merseyside Sport – we certainly have a lot of talented people across many sport which I’m sure will be showcased really well on the day.”
Aside from the question and answer sessions and rubbing shoulders with the stars throughout the day, racegoers will receive a buffet ‘Feast for Champions’ in the Champions Lounge, breakfast canapes, Earl of Derby Grandstand seats, afternoon tea, musical entertainment, complimentary racecard and free car parking.
Competitors from the 2017 Invictus Games in Toronto will also be present in the Champions Lounge to share their inspiring stories and will be part of a new military theme on the day as well as the opening ceremony of the Randox Health Grand National Festival.
