2026 Travers Stakes Runners and Odds: Full 10-Horse Guide
The 2026 Travers Stakes has produced exactly the sort of field you would hope to see for one of the biggest three-year-old races of the American summer.
Kentucky Derby and Belmont winner Golden Tempo is here. So is Preakness winner Napoleon Solo.
Haskell winner Baby Vino takes his chance, Arkansas Derby and Jim Dandy winner Renegade returns, while the rapidly improving Sea Strike adds another fascinating name to the mix.
Ten horses have been declared for the $1.25 million Grade 1 at Saratoga on Saturday 29th August, with the race run over 1¼ miles and scheduled for 23:35pm UK time.

Emerging Market
Emerging Market is easy to forget, but he actually beat Golden Tempo when winning the Louisiana Derby earlier this year.
His Triple Crown campaign did not go as planned, including a tenth in the Kentucky Derby and fifth in the Belmont, and he was second in an allowance race at Saratoga last time.
At 15/1, however, there is at least proven high-class form buried in his record.
Leading Change

Leading Change may be the least exposed horse in the entire field. Brad Cox's colt has raced only twice and won both, including the Grade 3 Indiana Derby on just his second start.
Cox has said his figures put him in the mix and believes the distance should suit.
The big issue is experience. This is a huge jump for a horse with only two races behind him.
Napoleon Solo
It seems strange to describe a Preakness winner as an 8/1 chance, but that tells you plenty about the strength of this Travers.
Napoleon Solo followed his Classic victory by finishing second to Baby Vino in the Haskell and arrives with proven Grade 1 ability.
John Velazquez takes over in the saddle and the draw in post three gives him plenty of options.
The Puma 8/1
The Puma won the Tampa Bay Derby before missing out by a nose in the Florida Derby.
He then missed the Kentucky Derby following a minor health issue before returning later in the summer.
He has regularly shown enough to suggest he belongs in good company, although he now needs to improve again in arguably the strongest race he has faced.
Renegade 3/1

Renegade might be the most obvious alternative to the favourite.
He won the Arkansas Derby, finished only a neck behind Golden Tempo in the Kentucky Derby and was third behind him in the Belmont.
More importantly, he comes here after winning the Jim Dandy at Saratoga on August 1st, producing a strong late run to beat Commandment.
He is fit, in form and drawn nicely in post five.
Ocelli 20/1
The strangest member of the field is also the biggest-priced. Ocelli is still a maiden, yet finished third at 70/1 in the Kentucky Derby.
That performance alone explains why his connections continue to aim high. At some stage, though, he needs to turn respectable efforts into a win.
Doing it for the first time in the Travers would be quite an achievement.
Sea Strike 5/1
Sea Strike could be the horse most likely to break up the established Triple Crown order.
He has raced only three times but produced a huge performance when winning the Curlin Stakes by 8¼ lengths.
That performance earned a 102 Beyer Speed Figure, reportedly the highest achieved by any horse in this Travers field.
The unanswered question is whether he can reproduce it over 1¼ miles against Grade 1 opposition.
Baby Vino 10/1
Baby Vino has already shown what can happen when the market underestimates him.
He won the Haskell at 28/1, beating Preakness winner Napoleon Solo by half a length after previously winning the Pegasus Stakes by 10¾ lengths.
He has now won three races in succession and looks much more dangerous than a typical 10/1 outsider.
Golden Tempo 5/2

The favourite needs little introduction, having already won the Kentucky Derby by a neck and followed it with victory in the Belmont at Saratoga.
He has not raced since June after a minor illness caused him to miss the Jim Dandy, but his recent Saratoga workouts have gone to plan.
Two wins from two attempts at 1¼ miles give him the strongest claim in the field.
Silent Tactic 10/1
Silent Tactic has spent much of the year finishing close to very good horses.
He won the Southwest Stakes before finishing second in both the Rebel and Arkansas Derby.
A foot issue ruled him out of the spring Classics, but he returned after four months away to finish third in the Jim Dandy, only 2½ lengths behind Renegade.
That run gives him an interesting chance at 10/1.
Who Wins the 2026 Travers Stakes?
Golden Tempo deserves his place at the top of the market, but this is certainly not a race where the favourite scares everyone else away.
Renegade looks particularly dangerous after his Jim Dandy win, while Sea Strike is the horse with the greatest chance of making another big step forward.
And with Napoleon Solo and Baby Vino available at bigger prices despite already winning Grade 1 races this season, there are very few easy lines through this Travers field.
My slight preference for the 2026 Travers Stakes would be Renegade at 3/1, with Sea Strike the horse I would be most concerned about outside the top two.
